The 2014/15 NFL season kicks off on Thursday night and the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Seattle Seahawks, get us underway as they host the Green Bay Packers.

Having marched through the regular season last year before dominating the Denver Broncos in the season finale, the Seahawks will be desperate to keep hold of their crown.

With quarterback Russell Wilson, running back Marshawn Lynch and a healthy Percy Harvin to compliment the ‘Legion of Boom’, Seattle appear to be in a healthy position to contend this year, and with a raucous home crowd expected to back them on Thursday night, it promises to be an electric start to the season.

Meanwhile, Green Bay arrive back in Seattle for the first time since their controversial 14-12 loss back in September 2012, but with a healthy Aaron Rodgers to lead them this season, they have aspirations of knocking the Seahawks off their perch.

Rodgers missed seven games last season with a collarbone injury but he returned in time to dump the Chicago Bears out of playoff contention in a dramatic game at Soldier Field to prove just how influential he is.

Combined with reigning offensive rookie of the year Eddie Lacy in the backfield, the Packers expect to maintain a strong challenge for a fourth straight NFC North title.

Receivers Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb will be the main targets for Rodgers, but protecting their quarterback will arguably be their biggest weakness again this year.

Nevertheless, as season openers go this is likely to be the perfect start to a new NFL campaign, and the Seahawks and their now infamous ’12th man’ will be sure to make it a noisy affair.
