New £62m Chelsea Signings And Liverpool Ace Included In Premier League Team Of The Month For August

The finest XI from the opening three games of the new season.

The 2014/15 Premier League season is now three games in and with everyone on a break for international fixtures, CaughtOffside thought it would be a good opportunity to select the Team of the Month for August.

GK – Lukasz Fabianksi, Swansea City

Finally decided he was fed up of warming the bench at Arsenal this summer and made the move to the Liberty Stadium, where his fine performances have helped the Swans to maximum points and an unlikely win at Manchester United.

RB – Branislav Ivanovic, Chelsea

There were some that thought the Serbian wouldn’t even get into Jose Mourinho’s starting XI following the £15.8m arrival of Filipe Luis, but with two league goals to his name already the 30-year-old won’t be dropped any time soon.

CB – Ron Vlaar, Aston Villa

It has been a fine start to the campaign for Villa, who’s seven points sees them sitting in third place currently and like Swansea they have conceded just one goal, with the captain taking his fine form for the Netherlands at the 2014 World Cup onto the domestic stage.

CB – Ashley Williams, Swansea City

As mentioned the South Wales outfit have conceded just once this term and that was at Old Trafford, with Garry Monk’s men looking stronger and stronger as the weeks go by and Williams has been a rock at the back as always.

LB – Erik Pieters, Stoke City

Many tipped Stoke for a top 10 finish this season under Mark Hughes and beating Manchester City away has gone some way to justifying that, with Pieters setting up the only goal of the game and generally looking like a decent outlet at left-back.

CM – Morgan Schneiderlin, Southampton

There were strong rumours Schneiderlin would follow the likes of Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw out of St Mary’s this summer, but new manager Ronald Koeman has convinced the Frenchman to stay and he has repaid that faith with some brilliant performances and two goals.

CM – Cesc Fabregas, Chelsea

Back in English football after three years with boyhood club FC Barcelona, this former Arsenal captain looks like he’s never been away with four assists already in three games and Fabregas could be the missing ingredient for Mourinho’s success.

RW – Steven Naismith, Everton

Hardly a glamourous player Naismith has worked extremely hard for the Toffees already this campaign and although results haven’t really gone their way, three goals for the Scotland international is a good individual return.

CAM – Gylfi Sigurdsson, Swansea City

After a frustrating spell at Tottenham Hotspur the attacking midfielder has returned to the club where he made his name in this division and has been in fine form as Monk’s side have beaten the Red Devils, Burnley and West Bromwich Albion.

LW – Raheem Sterling, Liverpool

Having greatly impressed in 2013/14 and to a lesser extent for England at the World Cup, there looks to be no letting up for this 19-year-old who has already scored twice for the Reds in the league and looks set to be world-class talent.

ST – Diego Costa, Chelsea

After completing his £32m transfer from Atletico Madrid this summer there were some that doubted whether Costa could adapt to life in England, but four goals in three matches has silenced those critics and the Spaniard is in great form.
