The Gunners have been linked with the German international forward on a number of occasions in the past, while a host of other top clubs around Europe were also reportedly looking at him this summer.

The 25-year-old is valued at around £25m and is widely regarded as one of the best attacking midfield players in the world at the moment, having contributed high numbers of goals and assists to Jurgen Klopp’s side since he joined in 2012.

Although City already have a number of options in attack, Manuel Pellegrini is seemingly keen to make some changes in that area, with money likely to come in from the sale of Alvaro Negredo to Valencia, with the Spaniard currently on loan at the La Liga club with the view to completing a permanent move next season.

Arsenal, meanwhile, could have some use for Reus as a central striker due to a current shortage of options in that position, though they are well stocked in the attacking midfield department as well, with big names Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez joining the club in recent times.
