GK) Mark Schwarzer (Middlesbrough/Fulham/Chelsea)

Mark Bosnich may have a Premier League winners medal, but Schwarzer’s longevity in between the sticks at the top level gets him over the line. The 41-year-old current Chelsea man debuted for Middlesbrough in 1997 and has gone on to make 543 Premier League appearances.

RB) Danny Tiatto (Manchester City/Leicester City)

Loved by his own fans, despised by opposition supporters.

Tiatto was a well-known hard man who’s hard-working nature led both Manchester City and Leicester City to warm to him quite quickly. Tiatto won Man City’s 2000-01 Player of the Season award.

Normally a left-sided player, we’re going to put him at right back anyway because he wouldn’t have complained.

CB) Lucas Neill (Blackburn Rovers/West Ham United/Everton)

A highly divisive character in Australian football, Neill was accused of being a money-grabber, but you cannot doubt his talent.

Neill became a mainstay in the Blackburn Rovers defence and had he opportunity to sign for Liverpool, but instead took up a more lucrative deal with West Ham where he became captain.

A short stint with Everton followed before we left for Turkish giants Galatasaray.

CB) Craig Moore (Newcastle United)

Injuries ruined Moore’s time with the Geordies, but the former Rangers and Borussia Monchengladbach defender showed his class when fit.

He even kept English star Titus Bramble on the bench. That has to tell you something, surely?

In all seriousness, Moore was a fine player and was well-received by the loyal Newcastle fans.

LB) Stan Lazaridis (Birmingham City)

Blessed with searing pace, Lazaridis was a fan favourite at St. Andrew’s.

His jinking runs down the left caused opposition defences all sorts of problems.

RM) Brett Emerton (Blackburn Rovers)

Not the most talented of players, but easily one of the most hard working who made the most of what he had.

Loyal to Blackburn, Emerton was a favourite at Ewood Park for his sheer tenacity and humble personality.

Scored some crackers, too.

CM) Mile Jedinak (Crystal Palace)

Relatively new to the Premier League scene, the Crystal Palace captain played a pivotal role in helping the club overachieve and finish mid-table in its first season back in the top flight.

While Jedinak has notched up a reputation for being a ball-winning destroyer, he showed he was equally adept at maintaining possession in his first season in the Premier League.

CM) Robbie Slater (Blackburn Rovers/West Ham United/Southampton)

Slater impressed in his four seasons at Ligue 1 club Lens before Blackburn Rovers snapped him up for the famous 94/95 season.

The midfielder made only 18 appearances for the club as it went on to win the league, however he remains one of only two Australians to own a Premier League winners medal.

LM) Harry Kewell (Leeds United/Liverpool)

There’s no doubt that injuries destroyed his career, but when fit and at his peak Harry Kewell was one of the best left-sided players in Europe.

Blessed with pace, the ability to beat a man and an eye for goal, Kewell starred for Leeds United and earned himself a move to giants Liverpool.

When fit, Kewell was excellent for the Reds but unfortunately he spent more time on the treatment table than out on the pitch.

ST) Tim Cahill (Everton)

Cahill will go down as one of the Premier League’s best bargain buys.

David Moyes managed to acquire Cahill’s services for just £1.5 million, and 226 games and 56 goals later you would say he was worth every single cent.

Standing at just 5ft 10′, Cahill had (and still has) and incredible knack for scoring headed goals. A star for both club and country.

ST) Mark Viduka (Leeds United/Middlesbrough/Newcastle United)

An out-and-out target man, Viduka was a physical striker with an incredible first touch and eye for goal.

Unplayable on his day, he will best be remembered for scoring four goals in a 4-3 win for Leeds United against Liverpool at Elland Road.

Viduka scored 111 Premier League goals and will go down as arguably Australia’s best ever.
