Ahead of the fixture CaughtOffside has picked out the ultimate starting XI of players from both teams.

GK – Keylor Navas

With Thibaut Courtois having returned to Chelsea after three years on-loan and Iker Casillas apparently on a one-man mission to destroy his own reputation, this new £7.9m goalkeeper takes the spot after his impressive past 12 months with Levante and Costa Rica.

RB – Juanfran

Although Daniel Carvajal is undeniably a supreme talent and will almost certainly be the first choice Spain right-back for years to come, for the time being we rate this more senior figure at a slightly better level than the 22-year-old.

CB – Sergio Ramos

Did not have a good 2014 World Cup campaign, but this defender is still among the finest in his position in world football and will play a key role for Los Blancos once again this term.

CB – Diego Godin

It was a toss up between this Uruguay international and his teammate Miranda for the other central defensive slot, but in the end we had to opt for Godin for his leadership abilities.

LB – Fabio Coentrao

Filipe Luis has also left for the Blues and Marcelo appears to have been exposed as a defensive liability, so it’s this Portuguese left-back who takes the spot in our XI.

CM – Luka Modric

It took a year to settle in after a transfer from Tottenham Hotspur, but this midfielder is now a world-class performer who is constantly adapting his box-to-box capabilities.

CM – Toni Kroos

Another new signing at the Bernabeu this summer and Kroos was something of a steal having entered the final year of his contract at Bayern Munich and looks set to be a hit in Spain.

CAM – Koke

Whilst others have departed the Vicente Calderon Stadium around him this 22-year-old has stayed true to the club and Diego Simeone and could also play a big part in the rebuilding of the Spanish national team.

RW – Gareth Bale

Became the most expensive player of all-time in 2013 after completing an £85.3m switch from Spurs and also won the Copa del Rey and Champions League in his first year with Madrid.

LW – Cristiano Ronaldo

Widely regarded as the best player in the world and the current holder of the Ballon d’Or, Ronaldo is now 29-years-old and how long he can maintain his relentless strive for success is unknown.

ST – Mario Mandzukic

Karim Benzema is certainly a worthy candidate for this spot as well, but for his sheer ruthlessness in front of goal we are going to give the No.9 role to Mandzukic and make it two Croatians in the XI.
