5. Didier Drogba
Although he is set to be a bit part player for Chelsea this season, the re-signing of Didier Drogba is still exciting for Premier League fans. The Ivorian is one of the great strikers England’s top flight has seen and along with Diego Costa and Loic Remy, the legendary striker should ensure their are plenty of goals to entertain fans at Stamford Bridge.
4. Alexis Sanchez
Of the players on this list, Sanchez is the most versatile. He can play in a wide range of attacking positions which is something he has already done at Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger has always liked players who can play in a number of positions and that might be why the Frenchman paid £35 million for Sanchez. At Barcelona, the Chilean displayed plenty of quality. He arguably should have been given more of a chance at the Nou Camp however, if the forward fires, that will be the Gunners’ gain and Barca’s loss.
3. Mario Balotelli
The Italian’s arrival at Anfield could be the biggest bargain of the summer as there is no doubting Balotelli’s ability. He has the talent to become one of the best players in the world however, it is his temperament that is the problem.
During his time at Manchester City, the 24-year-old would be sublime one match and then disinterested the next. If Brendan Rodgers can keep the charismatic front man focused, Liverpool will have one hell of a striker on their hands.
2. Radamel Falcao
The biggest transfer on deadline day was Radamel Falcao’s season long loan move to Manchester United. No one saw the transfer happening until the early hours of that morning so it was a huge shock when the Colombian did end up at Old Trafford after a summer of speculation that had linked him with moves to Real Madrid and Manchester City.
The 28-year-old could end up being the most important signing of the summer for United as an in form Falcao can destroy even the best defences. The Red Devils may leak goals due to an inexperienced back three but with the former Atletico Madrid man in their side, Louis van Gaal’s men should outscore most opponents.
1. Diego Costa
The £32 million that Chelsea spent to bring Diego Costa to Stamford Bridge already looks like money well spent with the Spaniard having scored four goals in three games. The 25-year-old is a big bruising centre forward in the mould of Didier Drogba.
Last season, Jose Mourinho’s men desperately needed a quality striker. Without one, the Blues struggled to break down lower table teams which lead to the dropped points that ultimately cost them the title.
With Costa in the ranks, Chelsea are far more likely to break teams down and could come close to winning the Premier League as long as the former Atletico Madrid man stays fit.
