Chelsea have shown their early title credentials with maximum points including a 6-3 thriller with Everton, whilst Swansea City recorded a shock 2-1 over Manchester United at Old Trafford to be the only other side with a 100% record.

Here are the five players up for the official Player of the Month award.

Diego Costa, Chelsea

The missing component from Jose Mourinho’s side last year was a prolific striker, so the 51-year-old entered the transfer market and paid Atletico Madrid £32m for this Spanaird.

It looks as if Costa is the answer as well, with the 25-year-old hitting the ground running in English football and bagging four league goals already.

Nathan Dyer, Swansea City

As mentioned one of the surprises so far has been the form of Garry Monk’s Swansea side, with wins over Burnley and West Bromwich Albion accompanying the triumph at United.

Dyer has been in great form as part of an attack that relies on pacey wingers, with the Englishman also bagging three goals along the way.

Cesc Fabregas, Chelsea

After three years with his boyhood club FC Barcelona this former Arsenal captain is back in England and by the looks of his performances has not forgotten what it takes to achieve great things.

Now in West London rather than North, Fabregas has lived up to his reputation as a master of creativity with four assists already.

Gylfi Sigurdsson, Swansea City

Back to the Liberty Stadium now and after a frustrating time with Tottenham Hotspur, this attacking midfielder was allowed to leave White Hart Lane to return to the place where he made his name in this division.

Like Fabregas the Iceland international has also been at the heart of everything going forward and has four assists and a goal.

Andreas Weimann, Aston Villa

Finally it is a forward who has helped Villa reach seven points from their first three outings, scoring the winning goal against both Stoke City and Hull City.

Paul Lambert’s men have a tough fixture list coming up so the Scot will probably be thanking Weimann for getting his team off to such a good start.
