The Baltimore Ravens will be looking to bounce back from their opening-weekend loss when they host divisional rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, at the M&T Bank Stadium on Thursday night.
It has been a troubled week for the Ravens after new footage emerged of running back Ray Rice assaulting his wife, and he was later released by the franchise and received an indefinite ban from the NFL.
The news only further added to Baltimore’s woes after the defeat to the Cincinnati Bengals last weekend, and unless they can get their offense going it could be another difficult night ahead for all concerned.
Quarterback Joe Flacco went 35 of 62 for 345 yards for a touchdown and an interception, but problems with their running game as well as a slow start left the Ravens with too much to do.
Meanwhile, the Steelers will also have much to improve on but ultimately Ben Roethlisberger and Co. were able to hold on to their lead against the Cleveland Browns to kick things off with a win.
The veteran quarterback had a career-best 278 yards in the first half and finished with 365, including a 35-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Brown that preceded a 38-yard scoring run from Le’Veon Bell.
Nevertheless, they were given a real scare by the Browns who came roaring back into the game but were ultimately unable to overturn their deficit and secure a win.
However, despite arguably coming into this game in better shape, the odds favour the hosts who have won four of the last six meetings in a rivalry that is expected to be very physical on Thursday night.
It remains to be seen whether the fallout of the Rice situation draws a positive or negative response from the Ravens players, but it is clear that they will have to forget about the past week and focus their minds fully on the task in hand.
