The 28-year-old only moved to PSG last January after becoming one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe, but he has since failed to make the desired impact at the Parc des Princes.

Having been a target for both Arsenal, United and other clubs during his time with Newcastle, a return to the Premier League with one of these two clubs could now be on the cards, with Cabaye only making one start in PSG’s first four Ligue 1 games this season, plus one appearance from the bench.

With big names such as Blaise Matuidi, Javier Pastore and Marco Verratti currently ahead of him in the pecking order, Cabaye faces a fight to break into the starting lineup on a regular basis, and would surely be open to playing in England again if Arsenal and United show an interest.

Arsenal are being linked with a number of midfielders as they seek to strengthen in that position, with Cabaye’s PSG team-mate Adrien Rabiot also believed to be on Arsene Wenger’s radar.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are also looking for improvements in the central midfield area, with Louis van Gaal also looking at AS Roma pair Kevin Strootman and Miralem Pjanic, as well as Juventus star Arturo Vidal.

Cabaye could be cheaper option, as it is believed he may be allowed to move for between £15-20m, with the French champions looking to offload unwanted squad players to help adhere to Uefa’s Financial Fair Play laws.
