Five Premier League Stars Injured On International Duty, Including Liverpool And Arsenal Key Men

Five players who could miss this weekend’s games due to international action.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been seething in his criticism of England manager Roy Hodgson’s treatment of striker Daniel Sturridge in training, after he limped out of a session and picked up an injury that could rule him out six games for the Reds.

Sturridge is far from the only Premier League star to be a weekend doubt due to an international injury, however – here are the five vital Premier League talents who could miss out:

Stevan Jovetic (Manchester City and Montenegro)

Striker Stevan Jovetic has been in fine form for Manchester City at the start of the season after a frustrating first year at the Etihad Stadium, but he is a doubt for City’s crucial trip to Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime after picking up a hamstring injury during a training session whilst on debut with Montenegro.

Diego Costa (Chelsea and Spain)

Chelsea striker Diego Costa has been in wonderful form for his club during the opening rounds of the Premier League season, but is a major doubt for the Blues’ top-of-the-table clash against shock early pacesetters Swansea City after picking up yet another hamstring injury whilst away with Spain.

Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal and Wales)

Midfielder Aaron Ramsey is arguably Arsenal’s most important players, but he could be set to sit out their massive clash against Manchester City after running the gauntlet against Andorra, limping off after a robust challenge by the minnows and also enduring their awful synthetic pitch during Wales’ nervy victory.

Jack Colback (Newcastle United and England)

Newcastle United’s controversial summer free transfer signing from Sunderland, Jack Colback, was called up to the England squad to the first time by Roy Hodgson, but he was an early casualty after picking up a calf injury and could miss the Magpies’ weekend fixture.

Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool and England)

The most controversial of the international casualties has been Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge, who picked up a hamstring injury whilst in training for England and looks set to miss around three weeks of action for the Reds, provoking a furious reaction from manager Brendan Rodgers.
