Figures do, however, continue to show an impressively low proportion of the fans attending matches as having caused any problems for the police or rival fans, particularly when the figures for non-violent offences are analysed.

The report, which also focused on the number of banning orders imposed on fans of each club, recorded the highest number of arrests for United fans, but these are the rest of the worst offenders:

Chelsea (56 fans arrested)

The report recorded 56 Chelsea have as having been arrested during the period analysed, with the majority being at matches held at Stamford Bridge. The biggest proportion of arrests were for alcohol related offences, but two fans were also arrested for possessing flares or fireworks.

Liverpool (58 fans arrested)

Premier League runners-up Liverpool were recorded as having 58 fans arrested during the 2013/14 season, although most of these were at matches held away from Anfield. Again, the majority were for alcohol related offence, although there were also 15 arrests made for violent disorder.

Sunderland (62 fans arrested)

Sunderland were recorded as having the fourth highest number of arrests in the Premier League, with 62 fans, the majority at the Stadium of Light. Many of the arrests made of Sunderland fans, however, were for non-violent offences, with alcohol and pitch incursion making up the vast majority of the figures.

Arsenal (67 fans arrested)

Arsenal saw 67 fans arrested, with more of these being recorded at home matches than games held away from the Emirates Stadium. Public disorder offences made up the highest proportion of Arsenal arrests, although again a significant number of alcohol related offences were recorded.

Manchester City (71 fans arrested)

71 Manchester City fans were arrested at matches, with a significant 48 of these coming in the club’s away fixtures. The majority were, once again, arrests recorded for alcohol related offences – although there were eight instances of fans being arrested for the possession of flares or fireworks, with only Stoke City having more.

Manchester United (112 fans arrested)

Manchester United had the most arrests recorded of any club in English football, with the majority being made up alcohol related offences and also public disorder, although the 13 fans arrested for violent disorder was the second highest figure in the Premier League after Liverpool.
