GK – Simon Mignolet
With no serious competition as yet for the Belgium international he will continue between the sticks for the foreseeable future.
RB – Javier Manquillo
Glen Johnson has increasingly become a liability in recent times and this Atletico Madrid loanee looks to be the ideal replacement.
CB – Martin Skrtel
Mamadou Sakho could find game time hard to come by this term as Skrtel continues to be preferred by manager Brendan Rodgers.
CB – Dejan Lovren
Alongside the Slovakian is expected to be this new £20m signing from Southampton, who has been bought in to shore up things at the back.
LB – Alberto Moreno
Scored his first goal for the club in the 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Merseysiders’ last outing and looks a decent buy at £12m.
CM – Jordan Henderson
Has greatly developed under the guidance of Rodgers and every time Henderson plays he seems to improve a little bit more.
CM – Steven Gerrard
The captain is enjoying his new deeplying playmaker role and having now retired from international football as well he can solely concentrate on guiding his boyhood club to success.
CM – Joe Allen
There are doubts over the Welshman’s fitness, but if he can play we expect Allen to be preferred to Philippe Coutinho.
RW – Raheem Sterling
The 19-year-old appears to have picked up where he left off last season in 2014/15, with two league goals already and increasing confidence.
ST – Mario Balotelli
With Daniel Sturridge out injured for the next three weeks Balotelli has a great opportunity to establish himself after a £16m switch from AC Milan.
