Former Manchester Untied and Everton boss David Moyes is currently the bookies favourite to be the next Magpies manager, should time be called on Pardew’s reign by owner Mike Ashley.

Pardew is contracted to the club until 2020, and is likely to demand a fairly hefty pay-off if the club decides he should be relieved of his position.

But with the club yet to win this season, and the fans demanding a change, there is every possibility that the Newcastle chief’s hand could be forced – with United rock bottom of the Premier League table with two points.

Here are the top five potential replacements for Pardew:

5) Michael Laudrup

The former Swansea City boss led the Welsh club to Capital One Cup glory during his brief stint in charge, while the Swans remained comfortably clear of the relegation zone under his guidance. The Dane is currently contracted to Lekhwiya SC in Qatar, but could surely be lured back to the Premier League if the right job was offered.

4) Neil Lennon

Neil Lennon endured plenty of success during his time as Celtic manager, winning three SPL titles and two Scottish Cups. He also guided the club to a shock 2-1 victory over Barcelona in the 2012-13 Champions League, where his team were eventually knocked out by Italian giants Juventus. Currently available and eager for a chance in the Premier League.

3) Steve Bruce

Bruce would be a highly controversial choice considering his links with Newcastle’s local rivals Sunderland, but he is a manager with a proven track record of success and survival – having also kept the likes of Wigan and current club Hull in the Premier League. With the current uncertainty surrounding Hull’s ownership, he could be tempted into a move.

2) Tony Pulis

Another man with a proven track record of keeping teams moving in the right direction. He transformed Stoke City into a recognized and stable Premier League team following promotion, and then pulled off something of a miracle by leading Crystal Palace to a comfortable finish after a horrific start under Ian Holloway.

1) David Moyes

Moyes fell short in the impossible job: succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United. However, that should not take away from the fact that he is an excellent Premier League manager, as he proved over the course of many years with Everton. Consistent top ten finishes were regularly registered under his guidance, and he should bring stability to the Magpies.
