10) Romelu Lukaku (Everton)

Scored the crucial early goal against his former side – his first Premier League goal while playing for a team that actually owns him. Gave the Baggies problems throughout and deservedly helped Everton earn their first league win of the campaign.

9) Ben Hamer (Leicester City)

Making his Premier League debut in place of the injured Kasper Schmeichel, the 26-year-old was an assured presence in the Leicester goal, making a couple of impressive late saves to earn the Foxes their first win of the season.

8) Morgan Schneiderlin (Southampton)

The French midfielder will be growing steadily more pleased that he ended up staying put on the South Coast. His performance was the inspiration behind his team’s devastating dispatching of Newcastle United, while his goal was just superb.

7) Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)

The Chilean is continuing to improve in an Arsenal shirt, and really shone against City, scoring his team’s second goal with a wonderfully taken volley, which looked as if it was going to be the winner. A dangerous all-round display, which was only let down by some poor set pieces.

6) Graziano Pelle (Southampton)

His early brace set the Saints on their way to an impressive victory over Newcastle. After an uninspiring first couple of games, the Italian is quickly growing into his role in a new look team, netting his third and fourth strikes of the season.

5) David Silva (Manchester City)

A superb performance from the Spaniard as he drifted seamlessly around midfield controlling the tempo of the game, he became increasingly dangerous as the match wore on and more spaces began to appear in a tiring defence.

4) Jack Wilshere (Arsenal)

The Jack Wilshere of old has returned – a driving force for the Gunners in midfield, through whom all of their good play ran. A lovely dinked finish over Joe Hart for the equaliser, while his speed and power caused City problems throughout.

3) Eden Hazard (Chelsea)

Costa will steal the headlines, but the Belgian was the inspiration behind the Spaniard’s devastating finishes. A sparkling mix of direct running, cutting passes and clever movement that caused Swansea constant problems.

2) Nathan Baker (Aston Villa)

Who needs Ron Vlaar? The Premier League’s meanest defence kept another clean sheet, with Baker at the heart of a titanic defensive performance against Liverpool.

1) Diego Costa (Chelsea)

Chelsea’s three-goal hero continued his hugely impressive start to the season with his first Premier League hat-trick. Took his goals like a poacher – always in the right place at the right time – and really does look the perfect fit for the Blues.
