Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings From 2-2 Draw At Sunderland: Vlad Chiriches Has Horror Show, Mousa Dembele Shines On Return To Starting XI

Spurs rated after dropping two points up north.

Tottenham Hotspur were held to a 2-2 draw by Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

Spurs were the much better side and twice took the lead – thanks to strikes from Nacar Chadli and Christian Eriksen.

However, their failure to kill the game was punished nine minutes from the end when Harry Kane bundled in an own goal.

Here’s how Mauricio Pochettino’s men rated on Wearside.

Goalkeeper: Hugo Lloris – 5/10

Had a fairly quiet game. Will feel he could have done better with Adam Johnson shot for Sunderland’s goal.

Right-back: Eric Dier – 6/10

Did OK, but was beaten twice by Johnson during the English winger’s amazing solo run and goal.

Left-back: Danny Rose – 7/10

One of Tottenham’s most dangerous attacking players, consistently bombing forward from full-back. Was booed by the home fans after being harshly accused of diving. However, those Sunderland supporters would no doubt have loved to have kept Rose, who spent a loan spell at the Stadium of Light in the 2012-13 season.

Centre-back: Vlad Chiriches – 4/10

Clearly the weakest link in Tottenham’s back four. One suspects Chiriches won’t make too many more Premier League stars this term.

Centre-back: Younes Kaboul 7/10

Did a lot to compensate for Chiriches’ poorness. Frustrated Connor Wickham throughout.

Midfield: Etienne Capoue – 6/10

Looked in control for the most part, but it was all just a bit too slow from the Frenchman, who doesn’t seem to suit Pochettino’s pressing style of play.

Midfield: Mousa Dembele 8/10

Making his first Premier League start of the season, Dembele was easily the classiest player on the park. He came agonisingly close to netting his first goal since December, striking the post with a brilliant effort from 30 yards.

Attacking midfield: Christian Eriksen 7/10

His goal was scrappy, but his overall performance was very elegant.

Attacking midfield: Erik Lamela – 7/10

Looked brilliant in flashes. If he can bulk up a bit, he could be a very special Premier League player. Smashed the crossbar in the second half.

Attacking midfield: Nacer Chadli – 8/10

Showed great attacking instincts to get to a rebound before a host of defenders to score the game’s opening goal. The powerful Belgian caused Sunderland’s defence problems all afternoon with his power and direct approach. He played a key role in Eriksen’s goal.

Forward: Emmanuel Adebayor – 7/10

Looked a bit frustrated at times when his teammates failed to get him into the game quickly enough. As a result, he often came deep, which left Spurs short of numbers in the key attacking zones. When he did get involved in the final third, he looked fantastic.

Subs:

Benjamin Stambouli 6/10
Harry Kane – 5/10
Aaron Lennon – 6/10
