The Portuguese international, who moved in a then-world record £80m move to Real from United back in 2009, is thought to be unsettled at the Bernabeu after a number of sales of key players this summer, and a number of top clubs have been alerted to his potential availability.

French moneybags PSG are the latest to show an interest in the 29-year-old, widely regarded as one of the best players in the world at the moment, and are ready to offload four members of their first-team squad to ensure they can sign Ronaldo without breaching Uefa’s Financial Fair Play rules.

The players set for the axe at the Parc des Princes are certainly big names themselves, and should interest a number of top European clubs if they are allowed to leave on the cheap next year.

4) Ezequiel Lavezzi

With an asking price of as little as £15m, Argentine winger Ezequiel Lavezzi is likely to be one of the first in the firing line at PSG next summer, and should attract offers from Premier League clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. The former Napoli man has not found his best form since moving to the French capital, and Ronaldo would be a major upgrade in his place on the flanks.

3) Yohan Cabaye

Having failed to make any impact at PSG since moving to the club from Newcastle United last January, Yohan Cabaye is another who could leave for just £15m next summer or even this January, with Arsenal and Manchester United likely to revive their interest in the player. The French international was regarded as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League during his time at St James’ Park, and he could add something to a number of top English sides if he does move.

2) Marco Verratti

Another fine midfield player who may not survive PSG’s squad cull is Italian youngster Marco Verratti. The talented 21-year-old has been linked with big names such as Manchester United, Juventus and Real Madrid in the past, and won’t be short of suitors if he is allowed to move next summer. Dubbed the ‘next Andrea Pirlo’, Verratti will no doubt command a slightly bigger price tag closer to the region of £30m, despite not quite fulfilling his immense promise so far at PSG.

1) Edinson Cavani

A world class striker who could cost as much as £50m, Edinson Cavani is also understood to be among those set for the exit under Laurent Blanc’s squad overhaul next summer. The Uruguayan international has not managed to upstage Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the focal point of the team, and is known to be unhappy with life in France. Cavani certainly won’t be short of suitors, with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United all linked with him in recent months as it looked like he might leave this summer.
