The Spanish pair both moved to Stamford Bridge this summer after Costa starred in Atletico Madrid’s title win last season, while former Arsenal star Fabregas was allowed to leave Barcelona after suffering something of a dip in form at the Nou Camp.

The two have played together a few times at international level, but have really struck up a superb partnership together in Jose Mourinho’s team, with some stats illustrating quite how impressive their start in the Premier League has been.

This in-form duo leads the way in notable Premier League double acts, with some other legendary players also known for their superb combinations at their peak.

Diego Costa & Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea)

These two have combined for a number of Chelsea’s goals this season, with Diego Costa scoring an incredible seven times in his first four Premier League games (a record) and Cesc Fabregas notching up a superb six assists so far this term – more than any other player in Europe, and another first in the English top flight after just four games.

Steven Gerrard & Fernando Torres (Liverpool)

A superb duo back in their time together at Liverpool, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres’ amazing combination almost guided the Reds to the Premier League title in the 2008/09 season, when they were at the heart of Rafael Benitez’s side’s challenge with a great contribution in goals and assists. Perhaps the lack of Gerrard behind him explained Torres’ terrible decline when he moved to Chelsea!

David Silva & Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

Two class acts, the superb partnership of Sergio Aguero and David Silva at Manchester City has played a key part in their recent rise, with the two proving to be ideally suited to each other’s games, with Aguero always on the move and Silva’s vision and quality on the ball meaning goals are guaranteed when these two play together.

Thierry Henry & Robert Pires (Arsenal)

Two greats of Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ side and some of the finest players the Premier League has seen, Thierry Henry and Robert Pires were unstoppable at their best, always looking on the same wavelength as they combined time and time again to rip apart opposition defences. Of course, there were plenty of other great players who combined with these two, such as Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Vieira and Ashley Cole, but these two seemed to have a special relationship on the pitch and really stood out for the Gunners.

David Beckham & Ruud van Nistelrooy (Manchester United)

It’s hard to think of two players more well suited for each other, as David Beckham and Ruud van Nistelrooy showed during their time together at Manchester United. Beckham’s crossing ability and unselfish play always complemented the superb goal-poaching instincts of van Nistelrooy, who never quite looked the same after his team-mate left for Real Madrid, where he, incidentally, also ended up playing later on as the two struck up their excellent partnership again.
