Five Players That Could Leave Chelsea In January Due To A Lack Of First Team Football

Some players may struggle to get into Jose Mourinho’s first team.

Chelsea have started the season in breathtaking form, winning all four of their Premier League games in style. In all of the Blues games so far this season, Jose Mourinho has been able to pick a fairly similar side. That means several players have missed out and been left sitting on the bench. If this continues, they may decide to look for first team football elsewhere.

Here are five Chelsea players who could leave in January if they don’t get more first team football.

1. John Obi Mikel

The defensive midfielder has been at Chelsea since 2006, meaning he is one of the Blues longest serving players. However, he has found a place in the first team hard to come by in recent years and that is especially true this season. He is unlikely to get a spot in Mourinho’s midfield so he may need to move elsewhere in January if he wants to further his career.

2. Petr Cech

The Czech goalkeeper has been a wonderful servant to Chelsea. He has arguably been the best Premier League goalkeeper of the last ten years. However, he has lost his place in the Blues starting XI to young Thibaut Courtois, who has just signed a new deal to stay at Stamford Bridge for the next few years. Cech is unlikely to get his place back, meaning he will almost certainly look to leave in January. He is too good a goalkeeper to just sit on the bench. PSG were thought to be interested in him during the summer and may look to make a bid for him in January.

3. Filipe Luis

The Brazilian only signed for Chelsea in the summer but already he maybe feeling a bit unsettled at Stamford Bridge. He has yet to start a game for the Blues despite costing them £15 million in the summer. Jose Mourinho has kept faith with Cesar Azpilicueta, meaning Luis has had to put up with a place on the bench. If this continues, the 28 year old may look to move elsewhere, maybe on loan, just to get some first team football.

4. Mohammed Salah

The Egyptian winger joined Chelsea during the January transfer window, with many saying he was exactly the sort of player that Mourinho’s side needs. Despite the odd exceptional performance, Salah has struggled to break into the Blues first team. If this continues, he may well look elsehwere for first team opportunities, although Chelsea may insist that if he moves anywhere it is only on loan.

5. Ramires

The Brazilian box to box midfielder has been used sparingly this season by Mourinho, coming off the bench twice and only starting one game for the Blues. Ramires is a team player but if he doesn’t get more starting opportunities at Stamford Bridge this season, he may look to move away from the club. Real Madrid were interested in him during the summer and could make a bid for him in January in a bid to boost their squad numbers.
