Arsenal Mesut Ozil – Playmaker gives the camera a cheeky wink
This is our combined XI from the two squads:
GK) Wojciech Szczesny
The Arsenal number one is still improving and is a better option than the ageing but solid Roman Weidenfeller.
RB) Lukas Piszczek
Szczesny’s international teammate, Piszczek is perhaps Europe’s finest right back when fully fit but has been ravaged by injuries in recent season.
CB) Laurent Koscielny
The French international has come on leaps and bounds since joining Arsenal and is now one of their key players.
CB) Mats Hummels
One of few generally world class central defenders on the planet right now, Mats Hummels stayed at Signal Iduna Park this summer and is a wonderful footballer.
LB) Erik Durm
Enjoyed a fine breakthrough season in 2013/14 and is now a German international, Durm is better than Nacho Monreal and has more reliable fitness than Kieran Gibbs.
CM) Sven Bender
Hard-working central midfielder Sven Bender is a quietly excellent performer in the centre of Borussia’s team.
CM) Aaron Ramsey
Wales international Aaron Ramsey has become possibly Arsenal’s most important player since a flying start to last season.
ARM) Marco Reus
Despite his current injury woes, the wonderful Marco Reus could yet be plying his trade in the Premier League in the near future.
ACM) Mesut Ozil
Despite his Arsenal form continuing to underwhelm, playmaker Mesut Ozil is still a fantastically talented footballer.
ALM) Alexis Sanchez
The top class Chilean put in his finest performance as a Gunner so far during their weekend draw with Manchester City.
SC) Danny Welbeck
Danny Welbeck takes advantage of the lack of certainty about the striking role at Signal Iduna Park by making this team, with neither Ciro Immobile, Adrian Ramos nor Pierre-Erick Aubameyang yet to make the position their own.
