Hart made three excellent first-half saves to keep City in the game, before his team grew into the match in the second-half. The introduction of Arjen Robben late on caused City some problems, and Boateng got the winner against his former side.
Read the full Manchester City ratings below:
GK) Joe Hart – 9
Made several outstanding first-half saves to keep City in the game. Came and flapped needlessly at a couple of crosses. Unlucky to be beaten late on.
RB) Bacary Sagna – 7
A solid effort from the Frenchman, standing in for the suspended Pablo Zabaleta.
LB) Gael Clichy – 7
Another impressive performance from the left-back who has been playing very well so far this season.
CB) Vincent Kompany – 7
Booked in the first-half, but otherwise his usual rock at the heart of City’s defence.
CB) Martin Demichelis – 5
Exposed at times by Lewandowski, it seems only a matter of time before Eliaquim Mangala comes into this team.
CM) Fernandinho – 7
Worked extremely hard in midfield, covering lots of ground and ensuring that Bayern were always under pressure when in possession.
CM) Yaya Toure – 5
A poor night for the giant Ivorian, even after he was pushed further forward to support the striker.
AM) Samir Nasri – 5
An equally quiet night for the Frenchman who was replaced early in the second-half by James Milner, allowing Toure to push further forward.
RW) Jesus Navas – 6
A couple of dangerous crosses, but was otherwise ineffective against Bayern’s back-line. Withdrawn late on.
LW) David Silva – 6
Accurate passing and created the little that City produced going forward. Might have won a penalty late on.
ST) Edin Dzeko – 7
Worked hard up front for little reward, replaced late on by Segio Aguero.
Manager: Manuel Pellegrini – 7
Will be extremely disappointed to have missed out on a point, especially while serving the second-half of a two-match European touchline ban.
Subs:
1) James Milner – 6 – Steadied the midfield and allowed Yaya Toure to push further forward.
2) Sergio Aguero – 5 – Struggled to get involved after coming on late in the game.
3) Aleksander Kolarov – 6 – Doubled up on Arjen Robben late on.
