Here are the six best free agent defenders that are available right now.

Joseph Yobo

The former Nigerian international left Fenerbahce in the summer after four years in Turkey. The centre back has experience of playing in the Premier League from the nine seasons he spent at Everton. He did have an unsuccessful loan spell at relegated Norwich City last season but he could be the ideal short term solution.

Diego Lugano

The Uruguayan would add a wealth of experience to any new side he signed for. Lugano spent last season at West Bromwich Albion so he knows how the Premier League works and although he is quite slow,  he makes up for that with his ability to command a defence in tough situations.

Oguchi Onyewu

The American has played for numerous top clubs including Sporting Lisbon and Malaga although injury has hampered his career. If he can stay fit, he could be a really good short term signing.

Abdoulaye Faye

The former Senegal defender knows all about the Premier League having played for the likes of Newcastle, Hull and Stoke. Faye is 36 so he would only be a very short term option but his wealth of experience could help a club experiencing an injury crisis at the back.

Anthony Reveillere

Although Revellere has no Premier League experience, he was a mainstay of the Lyon side that dominated French football during the early 2000’s. The Frenchman is also incredibly versatile, which would help a club low in defensive numbers.

George McCartney

McCartney may not have been the best defender in the world but he does have a wealth of Premier League experience due to his time spent at West Ham and Sunderland. The versatile Northern Irishman would be another good short term option.

Johnny Manziel girlfriends
