Coutinho made a strong account of himself last term and was an unsung hero in Liverpool’s challenge for the Premier League and his efforts looks set to be rewarded with a new contract at some point over the coming weeks.

Mesut Ozil – Arsenal

Appearances: 31
Assists: 9
Key passes per game: 3.00
Big chances created per game: 0.16

Ozil enjoyed a strong start to his career in north London, but recently his performances have been way off the required standard, and he has drawn criticism from all quarters, bar Arsene Wenger.

Juan Mata – Manchester United

Appearances: 32
Assists: 6
Key passes per game: 2.09
Big chances created per game: 0.28
Accurate through balls per game: 0.25

Having been frozen out for half the season at Chelsea, the Spaniard had a golden opportunity to resurrect himself at Manchester United. Sadly, though, David Moyes had no idea how to use him and he featured sporadically. Now under the tutelage of Louis Van Gaal he seems set for a further spell on the sidelines in the wake of their summer spending.

Christian Eriksen – Tottenham Hotspur

Appearances: 29
Assists: 8
Key passes per game: 2.66
Big chances created per game: 0.34
Accurate through balls per game: 0.34

The Dane made himself at home in the Premier League last season, and showed that the step up was not too overwhelming for him to bear. However, he was part of a dysfunctional team last season and only got to show fleeting glimpses of what he is capable of. Now settled under Mauricio Pochettino he can be expected to display his considerable talents on a more regular basis.

Cesc Fabregas – Chelsea

Appearances: 40
Assists: 19
Key passes per game: 1.85
Big chances created per game: 0.83
Accurate through balls per game: 0.70

Fabregas was back in Spain with Barcelona last term, where his occasional involvement often hampered his output. However, he seems to have discovered a new lease of life in west London, and with a regular run of games he can get back to running the Premier League just like he did whilst at Arsenal.

David Silva – Manchester City

Appearances: 31
Assists: 9
Key passes per game: 3.13
Big chances created per game: 0.42
Accurate through balls per game: 0.58

The fleet footed winger made more key passes per game than anybody else in the top flight last season and his goals also helped City’s quest to grab themselves another Premier League title and though City have spent only on what they need this summer he will be looked upon to for a similar level of output.
