Gunners plot move for highly-promising centre-back.Arsenal are one of a number of top European clubs chasing the January signing of FC Basel defender Fabian Schar, according to talkSPORT.
The 22-year-old centre-back has been tracked by some big names for much of the last year or so, having established himself as one of the most promising defensive players in Europe.
Schar is valued at around £10m by his club, and could make an ideal signing for Arsene Wenger as the Gunners boss continues to search for a top class replacement for Thomas Vermaelen, who made the summer switch to Barcelona.
Schar is also being tracked by Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan, however, and Arsenal may struggle to win the race for his signature with the Swiss international gaining so much interest.
The youngster appeared for his country at this summer’s World Cup, showing that he can perform on the biggest stage, and he may be eager to move on to a bigger club after his side suffered a humiliating 5-1 defeat at the hands of Real Madrid in the Champions League this week.
Arsenal have also been linked with another central defenders due to having a lack of backup for Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny in that position.
