Five potential targets for Mourinho when the window reopens.

Despite the fact that the summer transfer window has only just slammed shut, there are still plenty of transfer rumours surrounding the top Premier League sides ahead of January – and Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea are no difference, despite their wonderful start to the Premier League season leaving them top of the table and without a blemish on their record.

Here are five players that Chelsea seem to be targeting ahead of January:

Paco Alacacer (Valencia)

Recent reports have suggested that Chelsea could battle with London rivals Arsenal come January for the signing of highly rated young Spanish striker Paco Alcacer from Valencia – but the nouveau riche La Liga side are unlikely to want to sell their star asset on the cheap.

Julian Brandt (Bayer Leverkusen)

Another transfer battle could be on the cards for Chelsea in January, with recent reports also linking them with a move for teenage winger Julian Brandt from Bayer Leverkusen – but rivals Liverpool are also extremely interested in the services of yet another fine young player to emerge in the Bundesliga.

Gianelli Imbula (Olympique Marseille)

Chelsea have seemingly been tracking the progress of dominant central midfielder Gianelli Imbula for some time, since before he made the move from Rennes to Marseille, but with the Stade Velodrome outfit reportedly ready to listen to offers for him, the Blues could look to make their move for Imbula, despite competition from Arsenal.

Denis Suarez (Barcelona)

Some reports have linked the Blues with a surprise move for Barcelona wonderkid Denis Suarez, a young Spaniard who has previously been on the books at Manchester City before being lured to La Liga. He is currently on loan to Sevilla for the season and committed to the club, but it is not inconceivable that Chelsea could sign Suarez in January before loaning him back to Sevilla, with the Blues big fans of allowing players to learn their trade elsewhere on temporary deals.

Jack Grealish (Aston Villa)

Teenager winger Jack Grealish has made a real impression at Aston Villa since returning to the club from a loan spell at League One outfit Notts County last season, with his dazzling wide play having attracted the attention of Chelsea, who have been linked with a bid as Grealish stalls over a new deal at Villa Park.
