Here are the top ten Premier League strikers who got off to great starts and then began to fade out:

10) Collins John

Brought to Fulham as an 18-year-old in 2004, John scored a brace in each of his opening matches for the Cottagers.

The following season the Dutch striker managed to find the net just four times however, and it was all downhill from there.

9) Adrian Mutu

One of the first major Chelsea signings of the Roman Abramovich era, the Romanian looked good value for money after he scored four times in his opening three games.

He failed to keep up his goalscoring form however, and managed just two league goals in the remainder of the season.

8) Jon Stead

Upon his move to the top flight of English football Stead began an impressive run which saw him score six times in 13 Premier League games.

The following season his form took a nasty dip though, and the English forward managed just two goals the entire campaign.

7) Francesco Baiano

Despite a penalty miss on his debut, Baiano netted an average of a goal a game in his first eight matches.

That form didn’t last however, and he scored the same number (eight goals) in his next 56 appearances for the club before being shipped back to Italy.

6) Robinho

Brazilian speedster Robinho was one of the first truly big money purchases by the new look Manchester City, brought in from Real Madrid for £33m. He scored 11 goals in his first 18 games, scoring a further four goals throughout the season.

The following season he didn’t score a single goal in the league however, scoring just once in the FA Cup against Scunthorpe. He was soon sent back to Brazil on loan to Santos.

5) Marouane Chamakh

After joining the club he had supported as a child, Chamakh bagged an impressive ten goals in 21 games, and looked to be a fantastic signing have joined on a free from Bordeaux.

He looked to be all finished by November however, failing to find the net in the league after that, and managing just three goals in his next two seasons.

4) Pavel Pogrebnyak

After joining Fulham in January 2012, the Russian set a record for the fastest player to score five goals in Premier League history.

He scored just once more throughout the season, and was released in the summer; joining Reading the following year.

3) Michael Ricketts

Prolific for Bolton in the 2000/01 season, Ricketts scored three times in his first three Premier League games after the club’s promotion.

After getting an England call up by Sven-Goran Eriksson things started to go sour however, and he failed to find the net again that season.

2) Papiss Cisse

Upon joining Newcastle Cisse totally eclipsed Demba Ba, scoring 13 goals in 14 games. He enjoyed a fantastic first season, scoring against some big teams, including the goal of the season against Chelsea.

His form has taken a terrible dip however, and he has managed just ten goals in the last two seasons.

1) Amr Zaki

Having scored 27 goals in 48 international games for Egypt, it seemed like a no-brainer for Steve Bruce to bring the prolific striker to England.

Zaki scored seven goals in his first eight games, and looked like the move was going to be a huge success.

His goalscoring form didn’t last however, and he was sent back to Egypt at the end of the season, Bruce labelling him “highly unprofessional” after failing to return from international duty.
