Here are five players Real Madrid may target if Ronaldo does move back to Old Trafford.

Thomas Muller – Bayern Munich

Like Ronaldo, Muller is incredibly versatile. He can play in a number of different positions from a lone striker to a winger. The German star also has pace, power and an excellent goal scoring record. Muller sounds like the perfect replacement for Ronaldo unfortunately, Bayern aren’t going to let one of their prized assets leave unless Real come in with a huge offer.

Eden Hazard – Chelsea

The Belgian is a young player who is improving rapidly under the guidance of Jose Mourinho. Two seasons ago, Hazard was only interested in going forward but now the Portuguese coach has molded him into a player who works for his team mates as well as being devastating in attack. Although the winger looks set to sign a new deal with Chelsea, Real Madrid can be very persuasive if they have a target that they want to sign.

Marco Reus – Borussia Dortmund

Signing the German winger would be a cheaper alternative to making moves for Hazard or Muller as Reus has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave Dortmund if an interested club pays £27 million for him. The 25 year old is one of the best wingers in Europe however, he doesn’t have the goal scoring record of Ronaldo so Real would have to sign a potent goal scorer to replace the Portuguese international’s goals.

Sergio Aguero – Manchester City

Signing the Argentine striker would solve the problem of replacing Ronaldo’s goals. Aguero is a wonderful goalscorer who is capable of making even the best defenders look silly. He would score a huge amount of goals in La Liga, if he stays fit that is. The one problem with the Manchester City front man is his injury record, which is pretty poor meaning it would be a risk to pay big money for Aguero.

Raheem Sterling – Liverpool

There is no doubt that Raheem Sterling is going to be a star. At only 19, he has already gone to a World Cup and is arguably Liverpool’s best player now that Luis Suarez has left. Like Aguero, he has pace and quick feet and is devastating when he is given license to roam. Real Madrid are almost certainly the only club who would be able to sign the England international due to the amount that the Reds would demand for him. Liverpool will also never sell Sterling to a Premier League rival.
