Liverpool Predicted Line Up vs Middlesbrough For Capital One Cup Clash: Rickie Lambert And Lucas Set To Start

How Liverpool will line up to take on ‘Boro in the League Cup.

Liverpool will enter the competition at the third round stage for the first time in five years on Tuesday night as they host Middlesbrough in the Capital One Cup. The Reds have suffered back-to-back league defeats, with a narrow Champions League victory sandwiched in between, so Brendan Rodgers will look to rest a few faces and try to get the club going once again with a comprehensive win over the Championship club.

The Daily Mirror report that youngster Jordan Rossiter is set to make his debut this evening after impressing in training, given that injuries could deprive Brendan Rodgers of the use of some of his main men.

Jon Flanagan, Emre Can, Joe Allen and Daniel Sturridge are all ruled out, while Philippe Coutinho, Glen Johnson and Jordan Henderson are doubts for the game. Captain Steven Gerrard, meanwhile, is expected to be rested after a strenuous week.

Still, even without some of their bigger names though, Liverpool are strong favourites. A larger squad this season should see them through against second tier opposition – at least on paper.

However, according to Wincomparator, Middlesbrough can be backed at 5/1 to cause an upset at Anfield. Given the Reds are out of form, Boro will give it everything they’ve got.

The expected Liverpool team follows below.
