Alberto was signed from Sevilla for around £7m a year ago, but failed to adapt to life in England so has consequently seen himself loaned to Malaga this season.

Having previously played for Barcelona B for a year on loan, the 21-year-old has fond memories of the Catalan club. He will be meeting Luis Enrique’s side in La Liga for Malaga’s next fixture however, and hopes to put in a good performance.

“I have nice memories, but I hope to give them a bad game and that we can get something”, he said to the club’s site.

“Barcelona have stepped up a gear this season with the arrival of Luis Enrique. We need to do our job well and I’m sure the coach is preparing for a difficult match.

“I’m going to do my best and give everything I’ve got, and who knows, I might be here for longer than a year”, he added.

Making just nine appearances for the Merseyside club last season he is unlikely to be hugely missed, but Rodgers will lament spending time and money on the Spanish winger.
