Manchester United are ready to reject a move for one of their former heroes, 29-year-old Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo, to avoid upsetting their current crop of players, according to the Metro.

Ronaldo made his name with The Red Devils before moving to Real Madrid in an £80million deal in 2009 and has been linked with a return to Old Trafford in the near future.

Manchester United want Netherlands defender Ron Vlaar, 29, who is out of contract at Aston Villa at the end of the season. Arsenal are also interested, the Daily Express reports.

The Holland international is a free agent at the end of the season and is yet to hold talks with the club over an extension.

Manchester United players were unhappy with manager Louis van Gaal’s substitution of winger Angel Di Maria, 26, during their shock 5-3 defeat at Leicester, according to the Daily Mail.

Di Maria, who had scored an early contender for Barclays Premier League goal of the season to put United 2-0 up, was substituted when the score was 3-3.

Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen believes Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal does not rate 19-year-old summer signing Luke Shaw, who at £31.5m is the most expensive left-back in the world, according to talkSPORT.

Shaw, a £31.5 million signing from Southampton in the summer, is yet to feature for the Red Devils this season.

Roma have told Manchester United that Kevin Strootman is not for sale, the Daily Mirror reports.

The Duch midfielder is a big favourite of Louis van Gaal and has been linked with a reunion his former coach.
