Luke Shaw benched: LVG doesn’t rate the £27m man
With the big clubs set to blood youngsters in the League Cup this week, we’ve compiled a list of six teenagers who could be given the chance to impress by the country’s best sides…
Jordan Rossiter – Liverpool
The 17-year-old midfielder has been likened to Steven Gerrard, and could get a first start against Middlesbrough this evening.
Chuba Akpom – Arsenal
The rapid striker has been tearing up the under-21s, scoring an excellent brace against Aston Villa recently. With Arsenal’s striker woes, expect the starlet to get a chance against Southampton.
Jordi Hiwula – Manchester City
With City struggling for fit strikers, young Englishman Hiwula (an Under-19 international), could get a run-out.
Lewis Baker – Chelsea
Jose Mourinho rarely gives youngsters a chance, but with Baker excelling in the Youth setup, he could get the nod in the League Cup. He prides himself on his box-to-box physicality.
Isaac Hayden – Arsenal
Another young Gunner, Hayden can play at either centre-back or holding midfield, and with Arsenal desperate for more options in both those positions, it seems only sensible that the teenager will get a chance to impress in one of them.
Sheyi Ojo – Liverpool
Like Raheem Sterling, Ojo was snapped up from QPR as a 14-year-old, and he’s mooted to be almost as talented… Although the Reds will be looking to pick up a victory first and foremost, don;t be surprised if Ojo gets an appearance off the bench.
