Based on the club’s needs in different areas of the pitch and recent transfer rumours from various sources, here’s a list of five players the Gunners should be targeting to build a title-challenging squad.

5) Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)

Available for just £20m when a release clause comes into effect next summer, Marco Reus would be a superb signing for Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund, though Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid are also known to be interested in the classy German forward.

4) Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)

Another superb player on the books at Dortmund, Arsenal could do with forking out around £30m that would be needed to sign world class centre-back Mats Hummels, with the club currently weak in depth at the back and in need of improvements.

3) Pedro (Barcelona)

A great goalscoring winger, Barcelona star Pedro could be available in the near future after falling out of favour at the Nou Camp. Valued at around £28m, the Spaniard would be a great addition to this Arsenal side that sometimes lacks pace and directness upfront.

2) Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint-Germain)

A huge investment, but £55m could be money well spent on Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, who would make a real upgrade on the likes of Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck upfront for the Gunners. The Uruguayan is known to be unhappy in France and has been linked with Arsenal before, though Liverpool and Chelsea could also be in contention.

1) Arturo Vidal (Juventus)

A top target for Manchester United, Arsenal could be well advised to join the running to sign £40m-rated Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal, who would make a fine long-term replacement for Mikel Arteta in the middle of the park, as well as being an upgrade on the likes of Jack Wilshere and Mathieu Flamini.
