Liverpool News Roundup: Balotelli Nowhere Near Luis Suarez Level Says Manager, Key Star To Sign New Contract And Merseyside Derby Buildup

Friday’s biggest stories for the Reds.

Brendan Rodgers convinced Raheem Sterling will sign a new Liverpool contract

The future of the talented 19-year-old is still up in the air, with rumours Real Madrid are keen on signing the young England international.

Sterling’s current deal expires in 2017, but the Reds are prepared to offer him a new contract with improved wages and Rodgers thinks the teenager will sign.

“Him and his representatives know how comfortable he is here. I am sure at some point in the future the contract will be sorted,” the Northern Irishman was quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

Everton midfielder James McCarthy says losing 4-0 in the Merseyside derby was lowest point of his career

It’s the first derby of the season on Merseyside on Saturday and Toffees star McCarthy is keen to right the wrongs of the result in this game last season.

Roberto Martinez’s men were humbled 4-0 in a drubbing at Anfield and the Republic of Ireland international wants to make amends immediately.

“They are our arch rivals so to go down 4-0 to them sticks with you and makes you determined to make amends. That’s what we want to happen this weekend,” McCarthy was quoted by the Telegraph.

Mario Balotelli makes video of first month with the Reds

The Italy international joined Rodgers’ side from AC Milan in the summer for £16m and has made a steady start to life back in the Premier League.

Balotelli of course also has a reputation for doing slightly “different” things as well and the 24-year-old has decided to make a compilation video of his first month back in England.

Rodgers says Balotelli is not world-class like Luis Suarez though

The boss has sent out a message of incentive to the striker by claiming that he could one day be as good as Suarez.

The Uruguay international was sold to FC Barcelona this summer and whilst Balotelli is a replacement, he is not as good yet says Rodgers.

“There is no comparison between the two as players. I think Mario is potentially world class. You can’t compare Suarez and him, but Mario is coming in as an international striker and he’s a talent, no doubt,” the 41-year-old was quoted by ITV.

Club legend Kenny Dalglish says team will get it right this season

Despite the fact it has been a relatively poor start to the campaign for the Merseysiders so far, Dalglish believes that 2014/15 will be just as successful as last time out.

The Scot thinks that even though the side has already lost three league games from five they can emulate their second place finish of 2013/14.

“They got it right last year and came so close, I’m sure they’ll do the same this year,” Dalglish told talkSPORT.
