Man United to Sell Six to Raise £80m of £140m Needed for Cristiano Ronaldo Transfer

Old Trafford side look to cover cost of Real Madrid star bid with funds made from major squad sale.

Man United boss Louis van Gaal is readying moves to cash in on a host of players he doesn’t deem as part of his long term plans, the funds from which the Old Trafford side would use to help cover the cost of a lucrative offer to re-sign Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Four of those on the way out are currently out on loan with Man United hopeful that permanent moves will be secured next summer.

Mexican forward Javier Hernandez’s season long loan spell at Real Madrid has started well, with the forward netting twice after coming on as sub in a recent 8-2 thrashing of Deportivo La Coruna.

An £18m permanent move to the Bernabeu has been written into the loan deal and Man United will hope Carlo Ancelotti chooses to exercise the option.

Tom Cleverley is enjoying the taste of regular first team action at Aston Villa and Man United will demand around £8m for the move to the Midlands outfit to be made permanent though a lot could well depend on the ongoing situation under current owner Randy Lerner, with some sources claiming that American is looking to sell the club.

Wilfried Zaha barely got a chance to prove himself at Man United before he was loaned out to Cardiff City last season and is certainly delivering the goods back at Selhurst Park and manager Neil Warnock may well be willing to meet the £7m price-tag placed on the England winger.

Nani is another player who appears to be reveling during his loan spell away from Man United, the Portuguese winger showing a real return to form back at his former club Sporting Lisbon, impressing both in domestic and Champions League action.

Man United wisely tied down the attacker to a new deal in recent months so will demand around £9m for the 27 year old, a fee Nani certainly justifies of late.

Marouane Fellaini has struggled with injuries since Louis van Gaal took over at Man United and is not likely to force his way back into the manager’s midfield picture and the Premier League side will be willing to accept as little as £15m for a player who cost them £27.5m last summer.

Finally van Gaal is ready to make Spaniard Juan Mata available for prospective buyers, with the likes of AS Roma, Atletico Madrid and former club Valencia all said to be interested.

The arrivals of Radamel Falcao and Angel di Maria have left van Gaal with ‘too many cooks’ when filling rolls in his attack and his midfield diamond and the former Chelsea man is seen as the odd man out.

Man United will readily accept around £23m for the 25 year old.

Moves to welcome back Ronaldo will cost Man United as much as £140m in terms of the Real Madrid attacker’s projected wage demands and his transfer fee and Man United would look to sales of these six players to help cover half that outlay.
