Here are the top ten red card recipients to have ever graced the Premier League:

10) John Hartson – 6 red cards

Former Arsenal and Celtic striker, notoriously aggressive, no surprises that he makes the list.

9) Andy Cole – 6 red cards

Andy Cole certainly had a temper on him, but it is still a slight shock to see the Manchester United legend so high up on the list.

8) Nicky Butt – 6 red cards

Nicky Butt was one of the dirtiest players in the game, known for his no nonsense style and tough tackling.

7) Vinnie Jones – 6 red cards

Known more as an actor rather than a footballer now, Vinnie Jones is still probably most famous for the infamous moment when he grabbed Paul Gascoigne somewhere he probably shouldn’t have.

6) Nemanja Vidic – 6 red cards

The aggressive Serb never seemed to grasp the fact that football is not a full contact sport, and he even marked his recent debut at Inter Milan with a sending off too.

5) Roy Keane – 7 red cards

One of the most hostile players ever to step foot on a Premier League pitch, if Keane was still playing today then I’m sure that number would have doubled. His intentional career ending challenge on Alf-Inge Haaland still etched in many people’s minds.

4) Lee Cattermole – 7 red cards

One of the few on this list still playing, Cattermole has been trying to evolve with the game recently which has seen booked far less. At just 26-years-old however, he has the potential to easily top this list before the end of his career.

3) Duncan Ferguson – 8 red cards

Due to his aggression and physical presence “Big Dunc” was known as one of the most difficult strikers to play against in his day. He even received a prison sentence for an on-field assault in 1994.

2) Richard Dunne – 8 red cards

Irish international defender Richard Dunne is arguably one of the least aggressive on this list, although that isn’t saying much. The fact is though, he is an old school footballer playing the modern game, and he has failed to adapt, still regularly seen flying in with unacceptable tackles.

1) Patrick Vieira – 8 red cards

Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira was truly a world class player, he did have a habit of seeing the red mist descend however. In particular he is remembered for a number of altercations with fellow disciplinary nightmare Roy Keane.
