Anfield star leaps to captain’s defence.
Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has sprung to the defence of his club captain Steven Gerrard following ongoing criticism directed at the Anfield star.
“Stevie’s still one of the best players in the Premier League.” Henderson told ITV
“There’s no doubting his quality. A lot of teams have been putting someone to man-mark him, which shows just how good he is. I don’t think he deserves any criticism. He’s been the best player this league’s probably seen in a long time and still is.”
Indeed talk of Gerrard being ‘past his best’ is more than a littler unfair given the plaudits that rang out for the experienced midfielder last term.
Gerrard finished the 2013/14 season as the Premier League’s leading assist maker and racked up 13 goals for good measure so talk of his demise is perhaps a little churlish.
