Here’s the side we reckon Jose Mourinho could choose to start for Chelsea against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
GK) Thibaut Courtois
If Chelsea were cruising in this group, Petr Cech might be preferred, but Courtois has been virtually faultless, and we can’t imagine Mourinho will deploy anything but his best side in this must win game.
DR) Branislav Ivanovic
Ivanovic provides superb defensive contribution, and offers an attacking thrust up the right, too.
DC) John Terry
The skipper will be charged with marshalling Chelsea’s usually rock solid defence.
DC) Gary Cahill
Cahill’s been occasionally criticised this term, but there’s no way Mourinho’s switching up his regular centre-back pairing.
DL) Filipe Luis
We reckon that Mourinho will give Cesar Azpilicueta (or possibly Branislav Ivanovic) a rest, meaning the more than capable Filipe Luis could start at left-back. He’s exceptional, and won’t let anyone down.
MC) Nemanja Matic
The Serbian battler will be used to facing Sporting Lisbon, having previously played for Benfica.
MC) Cesc Fabregas
Cesc will be hoping to pull the creative strings in the Chelsea midfield.
AMR) Willian
Willian’s work-rate and defensive contribution makes him invaluable in Europe, although Andre Schurrle will offer a bigger goal threat from the bench.
AMC) Oscar
Oscar bagged versus Aston Villa, and with Ramires doubtful, we think he’ll get the no in a slightly advances central midfield role.
AML) Eden Hazard
Hazard has been exceptional this term, and is quickly establishing himself as one of the world’s very best players.
FC) Diego Costa
The striker is struggling, but with Chelsea drawing their opener, we can’t imagine Mourinho won’t risk his talisman.
