Liverpool are poised to move for 32-year-old former Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes, a free agent, to replace underperforming number one Simon Mignolet, 26, the Daily Express reports.

Despite Liverpool’s valiant efforts in the league last season, the Belgian international shipped in a large amount of goals, leading to many fans demanding for a new shot-stopper.

Belgium international Mignolet, however, says he is not worrying about his place in the Reds side, the Guardian reports.

The Belgium international has conceded nine goals in the first six matches of the season as Liverpool have struggled to recapture last season’s form that saw them finish as runners-up behind Manchester City.

Liverpool are set to hand Raheem Sterling a contract which will more than triple his money, in a bid to end Real Madrid’s hopes of attracting the England whizzkid to the Spanish capital, according to the Daily Mirror.

Los Blancos are eyeing up Sterling with the hopes of adding him to their star-studded lineup in the future.

Liverpool are hoping to have England forward Daniel Sturridge back for Wednesday night’s Champions League clash with Basel in Switzerland, the Daily Star reports.

Sturridge has missed Liverpool’s past five matches because of a thigh injury, picked up whilst on international duty with the Three Lions.

Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho has apologised for leaving Anfield ahead of the Merseyside derby on Saturday, after the French international was left out of Brendan Rodgers’ squad to face Everton, the Daily Mail reports.

Pictures have emerged of Sakho leaving the stadium and heading to his car before the match kicked off, and the 24-year-old posted a statement on social media on Saturday night to apologise to his club and the supporters for what he described as ‘a bad choice’.
