The highly rated Republic of Ireland international cost the Toffees just £60k and is now rated at around £20m by this source though is sure to be a player Goodison Park boss Roberto Martinez won’t want to lose at any price.

Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal may well see the 25 year old as a better option than the likes of Rafael and Chris Smalling whilst Jose Mourinho believes Coleman is the man to replace Branislav Ivanovic in his Stamford Bridge starting line-up.

Van Gaal is considering using former Everton star Marouane Fellaini as bait in a move for Coleman, a deal that could perhaps tempt Martinez even though he does have a number of quality central midfielders at present.

Coleman may be tempted by a move to either side and one imagines the chances of his exit would increase if Everton do not mount a genuine push for a coveted top four spot.

Everton currently sit in 15th place in the Premier League table having won just one of their opening six matches.
