Six possible strikers Arsenal could bring to the Emirates who earn less than Olivier Giroud…

Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud has signed a new contract worth £80,000 per week which will keep him at the club until 2018. Is the Frenchman the best bang for the Gunners’ buck though?

According to the Metro, here are six strikers Arsenal could buy who earn less than the Premier League striker:

6) Mauro Icardi – Inter Milan – £15,000 per week

This highly sought after youngster is on fire this season, netting six times in four appearances.

He is reportedly being chased by Liverpool and Real Madrid, and may command a hefty price tag if Inter decide to sell, but his current wage is a pittance compared to Giroud’s massive new deal.

5) Jackson Martinez – Porto – £30,000 per week

Porto have a history of producing quality strikers, and Jackson Martinez is no different; the Colombian already having scored six in six this season.

There have been questions over his ability to adapt to a bigger and better league, but he could still be an excellent addition.

4) Mario Mandzukic – Atletico Madrid – £73,000 per week

Although arguably no longer available since his summer move to Atletico Madrid, the former Bayern Munich forward is a natural goal poacher.

With three goals in his first six games for his new side, the Croatian is not just a goalscorer; his link up play also a superb part of his game.

3) Klaas-Jan Huntelaar – Schalke – £73,000 per week

Regularly linked with the Gunners over the last couple of seasons, Huntelaar has been prolific throughout his career.

Possibly coming to the point in his career where he may not be able to consistently perform at the top level anymore, but still an excellent option to have.

2) Carlos Tevez – Juventus – £79,000 per week

The unbelievably talented Argentine has had some authority issues in the past, especially during his time with Manchester City. He is however arguably one of the best strikers ever to grace the Premier League, and could be fantastic for Arsenal.

1) Gonzalo Higuain – Napoli – £62,000 per week

It looked for all the world like the former Real Madrid man was going to sign for Arsenal in 2013, but at the last minute Serie A side Napoli snapped him up.

He has been absolutely outstanding for the Italian side so far, and although he has denied it there have been suggestions that Napoli’s poor start to the season could be enough to push him out the door.
