The England international’s team mates that day were a mix of United greats and players who really should never have played for the 20 time league champions.

See who were Rooney’s team mates that day and where they are now?

GK: Roy Carroll

The Northern Irish goalkeeper wasn’t in possession of the safest pair of hands in the United goal. He recently left Greek side Olympiakos and joined Notts County on a one year contract.

RB: Gary Neville

Arguably, Neville is the greatest right back in Premier League history and was a stalwart in Sir Alex Ferguson’s side during the 1990’s and 2000’s. The 39-year-old retired in 2011 and currently combines a role in England’s coaching set-up with a job as a pundit on Sky Sports.

LB: Gabriel Heinze

The Argentine was United’s first choice left back during Rooney’s debut however, sometime later his career at Old Trafford went sour and he ended up moving to Real Madrid. Heinze retired in 2014, spending his final years at Newell’s Old Boys.

CB: Rio Ferdinand

Ferdinand will go down as one of the best centre backs in the club’s history. The former England international won countless honours at Old Trafford before moving to QPR on a free transfer at the end of last season.

CB: Mikael Silvestre

Silvestre won’t go down as one of the greats but he had a good career at the Theatre of Dreams before leaving for Arsenal. The Frenchman recently signed for Indian Super League side Chennaiyin FC.

RM: David Bellion

The Frenchman is probably the most surprising name on this list. Although he was quite quick, Bellion didn’t really have anything else going for him and only played 24 times for United. He currently plays for French third tier side Red Star, where he is actually scoring goals!

LM: Ryan Giggs

Arguably, Giggs is the greatest player Manchester United ever produced and finished his playing career last season. The Welshman is currently Louis van Gaal’s assistant manager.

CM: Kleberson

The Brazilian is one of the worst signings that Sir Alex Ferguson ever made. He currently plays for American soccer team Indy Eleven, who are so bad they aren’t even in the MLS.

CM: Eric Djemba Djemba

Another Fergie failure, Djemba Djemba played only 20 games for United before moving to Aston Villa. The midfielder currently plays for Scottish Premier League side St Mirren.

ST: Ruud van Nistelrooy

The Dutchman is the 4th highest Champions League goal scorer of all time and had a highly succesfull spell at Old Trafford, scoring 95 goals in 150 appearances. Van Nistelrooy is currently assistant manager of the Dutch national team.
