As tribute to such a great achievement CaughtOffside has picked out the best XI of Gunners players who starred under Wenger. See if you agree.

GK – David Seaman

It was a toss up between the Englishman and Jens Lehmann, with both having moments of inconsistency, but for being a stalwart during a boom period of success for the club we have gone for Seaman between the posts.

RB – Lee Dixon

Although Lauren was right-back during ‘the Invincibles’ season of 2003/04, we have opted for Dixon as the former England international made up part of arguably the best back line the North London side ever had along with the likes of Steve Bould and Nigel Winterburn.

CB – Tony Adams

Completing that formidable defence of the 1990s is this centre-back, who was also captain and epitomised the will to win and hunger for success that Wenger so greatly admired in his best players.

CB – Sol Campbell

His free transfer from great rivals Tottenham Hotspur may have been hugely controversial and provoked much anger, but after winning two league titles, three FA Cups and scoring in the Champions League final his decision to leave was proven correct.

LB – Ashley Cole

To many this 33-year-old is among the best left-backs to ever grace the game and he is perhaps the only one of England’s so-called ‘Golden Generation’ to live up to that billing and was great for Wenger before leaving for rivals Chelsea in 2006.

RM – Robert Pires

At a time when Wenger’s first successful team was being broken up the 64-year-old went back to his home nation of France to poach this midfielder from Olympique Marseille, with Pires going onto be a real talent whether on the right or left flank.

CM – Cesc Fabregas

The only player in this team not to win a league title under Wenger, Fabregas was signed from FC Barcelona as an unknown teenager in 2003 and sold back to them eight years later as one of the best midfielders in world football.

CM – Patrick Vieira

As Wenger’s first signing this Frenchman perhaps represents what the manager’s time at the club is all about, succeeding Adams as skipper in 2002 and using his physical and robust nature to bring success to Highbury.

LM – Marc Overmars

Spent just three years with the club before – in what would become a trend – leaving for the Nou Camp, but during that time the Dutchman was dazzling and combined pace and skill to real effect and keeps Freddie Ljungberg out of our team.

ST – Dennis Bergkamp

Although not signed by Wenger it was the Frenchman who helped this striker rediscover his world-class form and he would go onto spend 11 years with the club and become a true legend of North London.

ST – Thierry Henry

It’s perhaps a case of saving the best until last as Henry is arguably the best ever Premier League player, scoring 175 league goals in just eight years and showing that the club could compete with the best in the world.
