Brendan Rodgers’ side were exposed at the back once again, as their Swiss opponents netted from a set piece, while they also struggled to create opportunities going forward.

Read the full Liverpool ratings below:

GK) Simon Mignolet – 6

Made several good saves, but was ultimately beaten yet again after pushing the ball into the path of goalscorer Streller following an initial stop.

RB) Javi Manquillo – 7

One of the better players for the visitors, who was the pick of Liverpool’s back four in another shaky defensive performance.

LB) Jose Enrique – 4

Still looks short on match fitness and gave the ball away too regularly tonight.

CB) Dejan Lovren – 5

Another uninspiring performance from the Croatian who is still struggling to settle at his new club.

CB) Martin Skrtel – 6

Struggled on his 250th appearance for Liverpool, and was exposed several times.

CM) Steven Gerrard – 5

Failed to take hold of the game in midfield, his passing was astray and he will be disappointed.

CM) Jordan Henderson – 6

Quiet night from Henderson, who like Gerrard struggled to influence the game.

CM) Philippe Coutinho – 4

Very poor from the Brazilian, who looks a little lost in the current Liverpool team. Sorely misses the movement of Sturridge to work with.

RW) Raheem Sterling – 6

Caused problems with his pace, but was surprisingly wasteful considering his usual high standards.

RW) Lazar Markovic – 3

Looked unfit and was disappointing once again in a Liverpool shirt. Looks far from a £20m player at this moment in time.

ST) Mario Balotelli – 5

Cut a frustrated figure up front, while his lack of goals continues to be a real problem.

Manager: Brendan Rodgers – 5

Different formation, different personnel, same result, as Liverpool’s difficult season continues.

Subs:

1) Adam Lallana – 6 – Continues to improve in a Liverpool shirt after missing the entirety of pre-season.

2) Rickie Lambert – 5 – Had few chances to make an impact after coming on late on.
