Here are five quality players the Reds need to target in the New Year if they are to turn their season around.

1. Gonzalo Higuain

A goal poacher is clearly needed up front and there aren’t many better than Higuain, who reportedly wants to leave Italian club Napoli in January and could be available for around £30 million.

2. Marco Reus

The 25-year-old is one of the best wingers in the world and would add pace and skill to the line-up if they managed to land him. After rejecting a new contract from Borussia Dortmund, Reus could well be available.

3. Ezequiel Lavezzi

The Argentine winger has been struggling to get into Paris St Germain’s starting XI lately which means he could be interested in a move away from the Parc des Princes in January. The Merseysiders are one of several clubs who are reportedly chasing his signature.

4. Sami Khedira

The German World Cup winner looks set to leave Real Madrid after falling down the pecking order at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. The Reds are one of several Premier League clubs who are considering a move for Khedira.

5. Joe Hart

Simon Mignolet is clearly struggling in this term and may need to be replaced by a goalkeeper who isn’t going to make as many errors. Joe Hart may be available in Janaury if he loses his position as Manchester City’s No.1
