According to UEFA, here are the 11 players who should be singled out for special praise.

Goalkeeper: Rui Patricio – Sporting Lisbon

The Portuguese stopper made six saves during Sporting’s 1-0 home defeat to Chelsea.

Defender: Marek Suchy – Basel

Suchy was rock solid at the heart of Basel’s defence during Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Liverpool.

Defender: David Luiz – Paris Saint-Germain

The former Chelsea man opened the scoring during PSG’s 3-2 win over Barcelona. He also did a good job of keeping Lionel Messi in check for most of the night.

Scored what proved to be the winner in an amazing 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao.

Midfielder: Son Heung-Min – Bayer Leverkusen

Scored one and set up another as Leverkusen beat Benfica 3-1 on Wednesday.

Midfielder: Shinji Kagawa – Borussia Dortmund

The former Manchester United midfielder was on top form as Dortmund thrashed Anderlecht 3-0. His assist for Ciro Immobile’s opener was truly stunning.

Striker: Francesco Totti – Roma

Became the oldest ever Champions League goalscorer at 38 when he netted a classy equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Manchester City.

Striker: Danny Welbeck – Arsenal

Netted his first Arsenal hat-trick as the Gunners destroyed Galatasaray at the Emirates Stadium.

Striker: Jackson Martinez – Porto

He was only on the pitch for 25 minutes, but that was long enough to score two goals, as Porto fought back from 2-0 down to draw with Shakhtar Donetsk.
