12) Serious business

When asked about how much of a loss he was for a team on the rare occasions that he picked up injuries, Zlatan said, “An injured Zlatan is a pretty serious thing for any team.”

11) He’s certainly no Zlatan

On Lionel Messi, “Lionel Messi is awesome. He’s unbelievable, but I don’t really know him. We are totally different. He came to Barca as a 13-year old. He’s raised in that culture and has no problems with that ‘school’ shit. In the team, the play is all around him, pretty naturally actually. He’s brilliant, but now I had arrived [at Barca] and scored more goals than him.”

10) Who do they think they are?

As a youngster Zlatan Ibrahimovic was asked to have a trial at Arsenal. Many would consider this an honour and a fantastic chance to further their career; not Zlatan though. The striker declined the offer saying, “I couldn’t believe it. I was like ‘No way, Zlatan doesn’t do auditions’.”

9) Ask a stupid question…

When asked by a reporter, “Is your playing style Swedish or Yugoslavian?”

Zlatan replied, “It’s Zlatan-style.”

8) Lucky girl

When Zlatan was asked what he had bought his partner for her birthday, he responded, “Nothing, she already has Zlatan.”

7) Guardio-who?

During his time at Barcelona Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s relationship with then boss Pep Guardiola was notoriously poor. His opinion of the Spaniard was summed up perfectly in a line from his autobiography.

“Then Guardiola started his philosopher thing. I was barely listening. Why would I? It was advanced bull**** about blood, sweat, and tears, that kind of stuff.”

6) When in… Paris.

After he moved to Paris to sign for PSG the Swede had a few things to say about his attempts to find accommodation.

“We are looking for an apartment. If we don’t find anything, then I’ll probably just buy the hotel.”

5) Left scratching his head

In another display of his disdain for the current Bayern Munich boss, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is quoted as saying, “(Guardiola) was staring at me and I lost it. I thought ‘there is my enemy, scratching his bald head!’. I yelled to him: ‘You have no balls!’ and probably worse things than that.”

4) Dear John

Former Aston Villa striker John Carew once criticised Ibrahimovic stating that his moves were pointless. Zlatan responded, “What Carew does with a football, I can do with an orange.”

3) Three’s company

A female reporter once asked Ibrahimovic about the rumours that he might be gay. In typical Zlatan style he replied, “Come over to my house with your sister, baby, and I’ll show you who’s gay!”

2) His wife must have been thrilled

When asked, “Who is the best looking woman in the world?”. He replied, “I don’t know, but when I find her I will date her.”

1) Why always Zlatan?

Asked about Mario Balotelli and his most recent hijinks at the time, “I like fireworks too, but I set them off in gardens or in kebab stands. I never set fire to my own house.”
