United ready to bring former player back to Old Trafford.Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a move to re-sign defender Gerard Pique from Barcelona, according to the Daily Star.
The Red Devils are in need of strengthening at the back after an unconvincing start to the new season, and Louis van Gaal appears to be keen on a deal to bring in Pique as it looks increasingly likely that he may become available.
The Spanish centre-back had a spell at Old Trafford earlier in his career, though he never truly became a regular in the first-team before returning to his hometown club Barcelona in 2008.
Pique has since become a big part of Barca’s recent success, though he is widely seen as having suffered a dip in form in recent times, prompting rumours that he may be granted an exit, despite signing a contract extension until 2019 just a few months ago.
The 27-year-old was left on the bench for his side’s big game in the Champions League this week, with manager Luis Enrique preferring Javier Mascherano in central defence as the club lost 3-2 to Paris Saint-Germain.
Pique could still prove a good signing for United as they explore options to improve their numbers at centre-back.
