Victor Valdes Liverpool: Reds close in on Spanish ‘keeper

GK) Simon Mignolet – 7

The Belgian held the ball wall when it was driven at him from range, and could do nothing about Berahino’s blasted penalty.

RB) Javi Manquillo – 6

The Spanish right-back put in some good crosses, but was suspect defensively at times.

LB) Alberto Moreno – 6

Like his Spanish counterpart at right-back, Moreno is much more effective in the opposition half… As Liverpool had the ball for most of the game, he got away with it.

CB) Dejan Lovren – 6

Lovren gave the ball away with some overly ambitious passes, but he was actually very good in the air – although he did give away a (probably unfair) penalty.

CB) Martin Skrtel – 6

Led the defence well, and didn’t let let Saido Berahino get in behind.

CM) Steven Gerrard – 6

Gerrard actually got forward much more often than in recent weeks, and fizzed a few powerful shots at West Brom’s keeper. His pace was sometimes an issue though, and he gave away fouls as a result.

CM) Jordan Henderson – 9

A brilliant performance from the vice-captain. Worked incredibly hard, passed well, and capped it off with the winner.

CM) Philippe Coutinho – 8

The Brazilian linked defence and attack effortlessly. His dribbling and passing were noticeable throughout.

RW) Raheem Sterling – 8

The wonderkid was excellent, following his midweek Champions League nightmare. His pace scared the life out of West Brom, and once he improves his composure in front of goal, he’ll score a hatful.

LW) Adam Lallana – 8

Lallana bagged his first goal for the Reds following neat work in the box, and he constantly produced nice pieces of skill out on the left wing.

ST) Rickie Lambert – 5

Missed his chances to score, and was subbed off as a result.

Subs:

1) Glen Johnson – 6 – Encouraging return

2) Mario Balotelli – 7 – Very good, to be fair. Passed the ball well and was unlucky not to score.

3) Lucas – 5 – Nothing performance
