So here is the last Premier League Team of the Week for a while.
GK – David de Gea, Manchester United
It was a superb day for the Spaniard as the Red Devils secured successive victories in the league by beating Everton 2-1, a game in which de Gea saved a Leighton Baines penalty and two more world-class saves late on to secure victory.
RB – Branislav Ivanovic, Chelsea
The Blues further affirmed their title credentials with an efficient 2-0 victory over London rivals Arsenal in a match where Ivanovic ensured Alexis Sanchez had no impact on proceedings by marking him out of the game.
CB – Vincent Kompany, Manchester City
It was important that the Citizens overcame a potentially tricky away tie with Aston Villa with all three points to keep the pressure up on Jose Mourinho’s side and Kompany helped ensure they did just that with a captain’s performance.
CB – John Terry, Chelsea
Another skipper. Off the back of scoring a Champions League hat-trick midweek Danny Welbeck could have been a handful at Stamford Bridge, but Terry ensured the England international didn’t get a sniff.
LB – Andrew Robertson, Hull City
It was a good win for Steve Bruce’s men over Crystal Palace and in the sort of match that goes under the radar this left-back continued his good form since a summer transfer.
RM – Angel di Maria, Manchester United
Although things haven’t been as smooth this term for United as new manager Louis van Gaal would have hoped, there is no doubting that this £59.7m man is proving to be worth the money so far as di Maria scored and provided an assist yet again.
CM – Gylfi Sigurdsson, Swansea City
Two more assists for this impressive Iceland international who is really relishing life back at the Liberty Stadium, although the Swans will be disappointed to have drawn at home to struggling Newcastle United.
CM – Jordan Henderson, Liverpool
The Reds needed a victory over West Bromwich Albion and although it was nervy at times at Anfield, that is exactly what they got with this impressive midfielder scoring the winner.
LM – Eden Hazard, Chelsea
The Belgium international was the best player on the pitch against the Gunners and burst into the box to win a penalty in the first half and then stepped up to score it.
ST – Papiss Cisse, Newcastle United
Cisse is continuing his revival with two more goals against Swansea and that is now four strikes in the Senegal international’s last three league games.
ST – Steven Fletcher, Sunderland
Over on Weirside there was another forward scoring a brace as after a series of draws the Black Cats finally won with a 3-1 victory over Stoke City.
