Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings From 1-0 Win Over Southampton: Lamela Poor But Spurs Battle To Ugly Three Points

Lloris, Chadli, Kaboul and Vertonghen all impress.

Tottenham Hotspur kept their first clean sheet in five games as they won 1-0 against Southampton at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

Christian Eriksen’s second goal of the season was enough to secure all three points against Mauricio Pochettino’s former club, who remain third in the Premier League table.

Here’s how Pochettino current team rated…

Goalkeeper: Hugo Lloris – 8/10

Had three shots to deal with and was more than equal to all three, pulling off a brilliant save to deny Victor Wanyama in the process.

Right-back: Kyle Naughton – 7/10

Was solid for the open 30 minutes of the game, before being forced off through injury due to a nasty tackle from Ryan Bertrand.

Left-back: Danny Rose – 8/10

Touched the ball more times – 77 – than any other Spurs player. He was confident in possession and looked very good going forward.

Centre-back: Younes Kaboul 8/10

Another rock solid display from captain Kaboul, who really seems to have been boosted by receiving the captain’s armband.

Centre-back: Jan Vertonghen 8/10

Vertonghen looked super comfortable alongside Kaboul, despite Southampton bombarding Tottenham’s defence with long balls late on.

Midfield: Ryan Mason 7/10

Energetic and very positive on the ball. He put in a sound shift defensively too and did not shy away from the physical side of the game, despite coming up against man mountain Wanyama.

Midfield: Etienne Capoue 7/10

Helped Spurs edge the midfield battle and made more tackles – five – than any other Tottenham player.

Attacking Midfield: Nacer Chadli 8/10

Assisted Eriksen’s goal and almost scored himself, crashing a shot against the inside of the post.

Attacking Midfield: Erik Lamela – 5/10

Was dispossessed more times – seven – than any other player on the pitch. His passing and crossing were below par as well.

Attacking Midfield: Christian Eriksen 7/10

Provided a moment of top quality to finish well and put Tottenham in front. He failed to make an impact on the game for long periods though and, like Lamela, his general distribution wasn’t great.

Forward: Emmanuel Adebayor 6/10

Ran his socks off, unusually. However, he failed to produce a single shot in 90 minutes.

Subs:

Eric Dier – 7/10
Mousa Dembele – 6/10
Harry Kane – 6/10
