Cardiff City Appoint Russell Slade As Manager – But Vincent Tan Takes Another Swipe At Malky Mackay

Former Leyton Orient boss finally confirmed in South Wales.

Cardiff City have finally confirmed that former Leyton Orient manager Russell Slade is set to take over the managerial hotseat in South Wales, after protracted negotiations with the Ease London club, but maverick chairman Vincent Tan couldn’t resist having another dig at former boss Malky Mackay in the statement that he gave to the Bluebirds’ official website.

Whilst urging fans to give Slade a chance, despite his managerial career largely having been in the lower leagues with the likes of Notts County, Brighton and Yeovil Town, Tan slipped in a not-so-sly dig at Mackay, who the club had poached from Watford:

“After all, Cardiff gave a chance to a mediocre manager from Watford and he took the Club to the Premier League. I did however give him a lot of money to spend for that – in fact, too much money.”

Relations between Mackay and his former chairman have continued to deteriorate since the Scot was controversially sacked mid-way through last season’s Premier League campaign, as texts purportedly showing Mackay engaging in racist and homophobic language were released last month.

For his part, Slade is walking into a difficult job after resigning at Brisbane Road on account of Orient’s poor start to the League One season and speculation over his future, with Cardiff stuck in lower mid-table following defeat to previously winless Blackpool on Friday night.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who left the club last month, has left a big squad at the Cardiff City Stadium and it will be tough for Slade to put together a tight knit group who can challenge for promotion.
